SUMMER SCHOOL OF 2020 GONE DIGITAL
As announced on the 1st of June we would decide how to move forward with the Young Diplomat Summer School 2020. The team has worked hard to explore every possibility to let the Summer School go ahead as planned on location. However, the government regulations and practical issues have seriously changed our program, for instance the visit to the Peace Palace, the ICC, meeting with NGO’s, and other events and cultural visits have been cancelled. In combination with increased expenses of the spaces for the lectures, the program was not up to the quality standard our participants are used from us.
Therefore we have decided to move the Summer School online. Offering you a careful selection of the lectures and workshops from the original program, giving you the insights and skills on Sustainable Diplomacy we promised! You can find the exact program below. This also adjusts the length of the program to 5 days with an adjustment in costs to approximately € 40,- to € 50,-. Participants will still receive the certificate to put on your CV! Those who have already applied for the Summer School only need to let us know, if they wish to join our digital program in July, before the 5th of June.
We are not taking any new applications and hope to see you during one of our next trainings or schools.
After last year’s success the Young Diplomat has a new Summer School! This year, due to the Covid-19 situation, it will be provided to you digitally. This 5-day course will give insights into the relationship between diplomacy and perhaps the most crucial topic of our time: sustainability. At the beginning of the week participants will be submerged in the theoretical side of diplomacy, negotiation and their relationships with the environment and sustainability while also gaining practical insights from experienced diplomats. Lecturers and workshops by, for instance, the former Dutch minister of defence prof. dr. ir. Joris Voorhoeve, international governmental advisor dr. Simon Anholt, international negotiations experts dr. Paul Meerst and founder and president of the Young Diplomat Hans van den Berg will provide a theoretical and practical basis from which the participants can develop important skills.
Lectures will be streamed from inspiring locations and a digital tour of the highlights of The Hague, including the Peace Palace, will be given. The week concludes with a newly developed diplomatic simulation regarding the subject. Participants will represent a country or an international organisation and be expected to prepare a position, negotiate an agreement, and deal with the issues as they arise during the simulation.
WHAT LAST YEARS PARTICIPANTS SAID
Higly recommend this course, well organised and great learning content. Gives realistic and good experience what diplomacy is and how it is conducted. Change to speak and learn from high level professionals on the field.
My experience at the summer school of The Young Diplomat was incredible. It was a week full of cooperation, negotiation, and learning. We met with diplomats, experienced professors, officials, and citizens involved in the fields of diplomacy, justice, and human rights. For me, it was a great opportunity for networking and learning for my academic and professional career. I would absolutely recommend this summer school for future students.
We as participants of the Young Diplomat Summerschool of 2019 experienced a very intense and informative program in just 1 week! We visited key political institutions in the Hague, had many interesting lectures from real diplomats, scientists and professionals. Experienced plenty unforgetable moments, built a huge international network, gained real negotion skills and had a lot of fun. Highly recommend summerschool!
